The devastation brought by the recent hurricanes has shown us again how people will come together at times of crisis. It is deeply reassuring to see the outpouring of support—both money and manpower—to help those whose lives have been impacted by the storms and their aftermath.
Helping Neighbors in Houston
It should come as no surprise that the Truss Manufacturers Association of Texas (TMAT) chose to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Although their September golf tournament was intended to be a fundraiser for TMAT Build/Operation Finally Home, plans were changed when so many of their friends and neighbors were affected by that incredible storm.
Helping Veterans in Omaha
Our industry continues to show its commitment to giving back to the community with the Annual BCMC 5K Run/Walk for BCMC Build, which partners with Operation Finally Home to provide mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families. I’m happy to say that The Advertiser is a sponsor of this event which combines a fun and healthy activity with an opportunity to help others.
Helping Friends at Home
I’m sure that I’m not alone in saying there are additional causes we all choose to support throughout the year—and many of those are because of our friends. I would have never heard of the Foundation Fighting Blindness if it had not been for Stan Sias. Committed to helping his son Dylan’s best friend, Stan and his family participated in the annual September Vision Walk in Minneapolis, and those of us who couldn’t join them were still able to help sponsor Jack’s Jed-Eye team again this year.
Friends, neighbors, or even strangers—our industry always steps up to help.
