Celebrating Our Victories
Although I had intended to be at BCMC this year, I’ll be busy with my sister’s on-going chemotherapy treatments. In fact, I’ve learned that September is officially ovarian cancer awareness month! Rather than focusing on the negative (e.g., the 5-year survival rate is 49.1%), I choose to focus on the positive. I am grateful that she has recovered so well from her 12 days in the hospital. I consider us lucky that we live near one of the best cancer centers in this state. And, I’ve never been one to shy away from a fight.
If you or someone you know is battling cancer, please take a moment for celebrating. Find a reason for congratulations. Choose a victory that will put a smile on your face. Big or little, celebrating any achievement can give you the boost you need. My advice to anyone facing a challenge—keep your chin up and your head down. Life will always give you roadblocks—it’s up to you to find ways to enjoy it anyway.
