In our everyday lives, we habitually take many things for granted. It can be little things, like a store always having your favorite brand, or bigger expectations, such as your favorite store always being in business. We expect things to be where we expect them to be, and we anticipate that events will unfold in a certain way.

Enjoy the Moment

With last year’s pandemic-related cancellation of BCMC, this year’s show in Omaha should be a jubilant event. It’s been 24 months instead of 12 since the components industry gathered in Columbus, so being able to re-connect with old friends will be extra special. We’ve always taken for granted that the show is an annual event, but now we know that is not guaranteed, and we can better appreciate the times we’re able to spend together.

Many of the articles and ads in this issue are focused on BCMC 2021. As the anticipation grows, everyone is looking forward to (re)connecting in person. Please be sure to visit their booths and say “Hello”—we know they’d love to see you!

Await the Next Opportunity

Unfortunately, each year there are also people missing from the show—some who we have lost, some who have personal or professional reasons why they cannot attend, and some who simply do not have the budget for travel. For these friends too, we raise a glass and remember the good times we’ve shared in the past.

After a few days, this year’s BCMC will have closed its doors, and everyone will continue onto the next tasks on their schedules. But fortunately, we also can begin making plans for next year. BCMC 2022 will be held in September, so there are only 11 months until the next big show. Without taking it for granted, we can begin looking forward to another year in this industry and more stories to share when we return to Columbus next fall.
