Not every company can say they’ve been providing quality building products to their market for nearly 50 years, but The Building Center, Inc. can! We were founded in the Charlotte metro market in 1977, and since then, we’ve grown into one of the largest privately owned lumber and building products dealers in the U.S. [For all photos, See PDF or View in Full Issue.]

As our Chairman and Founder, Ed Norris, has said, “We’ve built our business on providing excellent and consistent service to our builder customers.” Accordingly, The Building Center maintains a fleet of more than 300 trucks serving the Carolinas, with locations in Georgetown, SC; Columbia, SC; Holly Hill, SC; Easley, SC; Rock Hill, SC; Pineville, NC; Gastonia, NC; Boone, NC; Greensboro, NC; Mebane, NC; Monroe, NC; and Ocean Isle Beach, NC. We’ve also recently added Willingham and Sons Building Supply and Septic Tank, Inc. in Newberry, SC, to our team.

The Building Center leverages its sizable regional presence to purchase and sell branded and commodity products at competitive market prices. Inventories are maintained and managed to meet the needs of individual markets, regional building practices, and metro architectural trends. As our CEO, Skip Norris, has said, “Our mission is to be our customers’ most valued building partner. That means having the products they need on hand, trucks to deliver them, and manufacturing support throughout every inch of the Carolinas.”

This level of product availability and service includes three truss plants located in Gastonia and Mebane, NC, and Georgetown, SC, as well as millwork and door shops in both the Triad and Charlotte metro areas. Additionally, custom millwork and prefab components are built in Pineville, which sources and fabricates exotic wood products such as reclaimed lumber flooring, siding, cabinetry, and mantels. “At the end of the day, construction is a people business,” adds Skip. “We’re here to provide assistance and solutions to the hardworking customers we serve.”

Now, our latest partnership with Willingham and Sons strengthens our presence in South Carolina and allows us to better serve builders, contractors, and homeowners throughout the region. As Skip Norris shared, “They have built a strong reputation for service and developed lasting relationships within their community. We look forward to building on that foundation as we continue to grow in South Carolina.” We are proud to welcome the Willingham and Sons team and customers into The Building Center family, and we look forward to continuing to grow together while delivering the quality products, trusted service, and strong partnerships our customers have relied on for nearly five decades.
