Though our industry has served millions of homeowners through the years, four (and soon to be a fifth) very special individuals stand out; those wounded heroes we have honored through Operation Finally Home. Through the generosity of SBCA members, we have provided beautiful homes, free and clear, for four veterans who have sacrificed dearly for all of us.

On November 14, at a fire station in rural Virginia, we began this process a fifth time, for an eminently deserving Marine who is suffering from traumatic brain injury. Notably, a single chapter of SBCA, the Capital Area Chapter, and its President, Gene Frogale, have been the driving force behind this noble effort, presenting a down payment check of $65,000 to jump start building this home.

Kenneth Shifflett, owner of Ace Carpentry and Quadd Building Components, has provided a 2 acre building lot, and engaged his partner, Anthony Clatterbuck, to build the home at their costs. However generous these contributions may be, significantly more funds are needed to begin work on this veteran’s home (please contribute at OFH’s website: https://app.mobilecause.com/public/campaigns_keywords/13354/donations/new?vid=5dgj).

Paraphrasing Lee Kirgan, “With all the bad things going on in the world, it is wonderful to witness the selfless sacrifices made by the fine people in this industry.”
