Placements for Subcontract Designers

By Thomas McAnally

For over 30 years, I’ve been placing truss designers with companies for full and part-time employment. In all of that time, I have not placed 1099 subcontractors. Back in the day, this included candidates looking for a remote job, who were out of work, or who simply wanted to make a little money on the side. The idea of matching 1099 subcontractors was not a good fit for The JobLine’s model of making great matches that last, so it was never a service I wanted to provide.

But, now I have a candidate who could benefit from working as a 1099 contract designer, so I’ve been considering ways to help him, and by extension other potential subcontract designers. This person is an American citizen temporarily living in another country, and he needs the flexibility of working remotely, either part-time for several clients or full-time for one until he returns to the US.

So, for the first time this month, we have an advertisement from a subcontractor seeking work in the Hiring Zone on page 148.

Importantly, placing 1099 contractors is still not a service that The JobLine will be offering. This option will be available via the Hiring Zone, and it is only intended for individuals who are seeking to offer design services directly to component manufacturers. There will be no ads for design groups or companies – this is only for individuals. As with our typical classified ads, space will be available by the column inch, with discounts for multiple-month placements, keeping it economical – after all, we are The Advertiser!
