Lean manufacturing principles help people break through their mindset by helping people challenge what they perceive is an absolute. Beside equipment upgrades, how long has your group been doing what they are doing without any changes or refinements to the methods in other areas besides the manufacturing?

“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know. It’s what we know for sure that just ain’t so.” Mark Twain

The modern cognitive theory states that people tend to perceive reality in light of pre-existing expectations and will ignore large amounts of contrary data before finally changing their minds. (Psychology Studies – Author & Source – Unknown)

“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change

Shigeo Shingo, considered by many as the world’s leading expert on lean manufacturing practices and the Toyota Production System, contributes this:

“Are you too busy for improvement? Frequently, I am rebuffed by people who say they are too busy and have no time for such activities. I make it a point to respond by telling people, look, you’ll stop being busy either when you die or when the company goes bankrupt.”

And finally, these thoughts from Einstein:

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

TDC highly encourages your company to embrace Six Sigma and other lean practices. They are all based on industrial engineering practices which will certainly provide a positive effect on every aspect of your business for improvements. Not just the manufacturing!

TDC wishes you a happy New Year and a very successful and prosperous 2017!
