In the mid-20th century, Toyota revolutionized manufacturing with a clear idea: eliminate waste, optimize the flow of value, and improve continuously. Lean manufacturing changed how physical goods are built by putting the worker’s time and effort at the center of every decision.

We start by listening. Lean practitioners call this “going to Gemba” — getting close to where the work happens instead of theorizing from a distance. No feedback is too small, because a minor missing feature to one person can be the roadblock stopping a designer from getting a job out the door.

A small UI nitpick becomes a serious irritant when you hit it 100 times a day. If a designer has to dig through a labyrinth of menus to raise a heel height or adjust a splice, those extra clicks add up. When multiplied across an entire design team, a tiny detail becomes a real drain on productivity. That lost time spent thinking, hunting, and redoing work is the waste, or muda, we eliminate.

Reduce Friction

Component manufacturers spend energy applying lean principles on the shop floor: timing motions, removing wasted steps, and keeping the line moving. We believe the design office deserves that same scrutiny. In software, that discipline is called UX, or user experience design.

Where a lean specialist might run a time-motion study on an assembly station, a UX designer studies how a user moves through a screen to streamline the interaction, then redesigns the interaction so the next step is obvious rather than a guess. The goal is to minimize cognitive load and keep designers in flow. They should be near their tools, free from menu-bloat, and able to work within a logic that matches their own design process.

Small Batches and Continuous Delivery

When it comes to our product roadmap, we cannot anticipate every need up front or ship a once-and-for-all solution. Business requirements change and material markets shift. Lean production favors small batch sizes over one enormous run that cannot be corrected mid-stream.

For example, even small modifications to our truss analysis calculations must be vetted against thousands of engineer-approved designs.

Between that automated safety net, hands-on testing by real users, and our own team doing daily work inside the software, we ship roughly 50 high-impact updates a year without compromising the workflows you depend on.
