Hiring is difficult and finding industry professionals has been especially challenging since COVID complicated running your business. Because one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to hiring, two industry-focused options you can use are The JobLine and the Hiring Zone.

  • Since 1992, JobLine has provided recruiting services to the Building Components and Off-Site Industries.
  • In 2020, I launched the Hiring Zone to serve a segment of the market that doesn’t utilize recruiters.

We all have tried the massive job board sites like ZipRecruiter and Indeed, and they serve a purpose. Unfortunately, for most of the employers in our industry, you need a department to wade through the applicants from all over the world. No matter the screening questions, they come with little or no experience or value to the position you are trying to fill. I know because I’ve tried them with similar results. That’s why I decided to add the Hiring Zone option. I will still provide recruiting services, but you can access the same pool of candidates and more with the Hiring Zone!

What is the Hiring Zone?

Simply put, the Hiring Zone is a job board for our industry, like a Zip Recruiter or Indeed, but it is placed where industry professionals can easily find industry-related job opportunities. It resides on the Component Manufacturing Advertiser website. It is low cost, easy to use, in a popular location, and comes with full support.

How does Hiring Zone differ from JobLine?

JobLine charges a fee to find candidates and only earns that fee when an acceptable candidate starts work. The Hiring Zone is a job board. You place an employment ad, pay a fee, and then candidates can respond to you directly. Candidates who apply for your open positions in The Hiring Zone are sent directly to you – the two sites are completely separate. I can’t see who applies to your ad, I can’t access any resumes sent to you. I designed it that way on purpose. Not everyone wants to or can afford to use a recruiter, but they need help too. Using a big one size fits all job board isn’t very productive but having an industry-focused job board is.

How do you use the Hiring Zone?

On The CM Advertiser home page, there is a big blue button in the upper-right corner for the Hiring Zone, which takes you to https://componentadvertiser.com/hiring-zone. There, you can view industry-focused employment ads, post a job, and review our rates. In 2022, I’ll be offering Hiring Zone discount programs for multiple placements and an annual contract option that allows you to maintain one or more ads active all year that can be updated as needed. And of course, everything is strictly confidential and no one but you will see your applicants.

I hope that you find the Hiring Zone a valuable tool when searching for industry professionals. As always, I welcome your feedback on how to make my services better.
