The Hiring Zone

Recently, there was an article in another publication that talked about workforce resources for members of the structural building components industry. The article included the typical, nationally recognized companies—Indeed, Glass Door, Monster, Zip Recruiter, CareerBuilder, and even Snagajob. Unfortunately, it didn’t mention a word about TheJobLine.com or The Hiring Zone.

Talking about it with some fellow industry members, it came to my attention that many people don’t have a clear idea of the difference between TheJobLine.com and The Hiring Zone. So, if this contributed to our omission, then it’s time for me to clear things up!

I started TheJobLine.com in 1992. As I say on my homepage, “The JobLine specializes in matching Industry Professionals with Employers in the Engineered Wood Products, Truss, Wall Panel, and Off-site Construction Industries.” Yes, that makes me a recruiter, or as some call me T-Harmony, and I’ve been very proud to be providing that service to our industry for 28 years and counting.

Now, fast forward to 2018. This magazine, Component Manufacturing Advertiser, was in need of a complete website overhaul…so what better time to consider additional options? Recognizing that some people are not interested in using a recruiter but still interested in help finding employees, I considered how The Advertiser’s new online portal could assist in that effort. The answer: The Hiring Zone!

The purpose of The Hiring Zone is simple: an online job board for the building component industry. There are listing fees for ads, not recruiting fees for filled positions. Employers post opportunities and candidates respond directly to them.

As The Hiring Zone has started to grow since its launch two years ago, I’ve been learning a few more things about our audience. First, employers still prefer to remain confidential! Second, employers are curious to know how many “clicks” their posts get (which is a new feature I’ve just added for them this summer). Third, we still have a lot of room to grow!

So, I invite everyone to drop by The Hiring Zone the next time they visit The Advertiser’s website—there’s a handy button in the upper-right corner of the homepage (directly below the “Subscribe” button for the magazine). Then, let me know what else you would like to see from this online job board. I started it with you in mind, and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the employment needs of this industry through both TheJobLine.com and The Hiring Zone.
