For any linear saw, the most common cause for downtime is basic – there isn’t lumber on the infeed to cut! That’s it! Nothing ready to go in? Nothing’s going to come out! PackFeeder /retrieval system/ lumber feeders are designed to solve this problem by taking out as many of the human elements as possible in the process of feeding a hungry linear saw. The Linear saw tells the PackFeeder what it needs, the PackFeeder grabs the necessary lumber, stacks it when necessary, and delivers it to the saw. There shouldn’t be anything left on the infeed side of the saw for the operator to do.
Currently there are a number of PackFeeder /retrieval system/ lumber feeders on the market. So what makes the Vekta PackFeeder unique?
Speed! It is a big claim – but we are confident with it. The Vekta PackFeeder really can keep up with your linear saw. With typical cycle times around 15-20 seconds for up to two boards, we outperform the competition.
Size! By loading lumber into the system in only one location, and by storing longer lengths of lumber not side by side but above shorter lengths, Vekta has been able to achieve a footprint that is 25% of an equivalent system. Not 25% less but actually 25% OF the equivalent system! That makes a really big difference if you’re wanting something that might fit into your existing factory.
Design! The Vekta PackFeeder has been designed through customer consultation. As with all Vekta products, we listen to the customer and their ideas feed our innovations! Requested features for the PackFeeder include:

- Process lumber from 3” up to 12” wide
- Load lumber packs directly from the supplier, no need to remove slats
- Options to automatically stack timber and feed multiple saws
- A staging area where packs of lumber can be prepared outside of the safety fence and simply pushed in when necessary, minimizing the downtime required for loading new packs
- Minimal preventative maintenance requirements
- Ability to be used with ANY linear saw.
